Olthang House!

OLTHANG HOUSE is located in Village Nemo, 35 kms in the west of Leh city and the Village has its own historical importance in the region for its unique qualities.

The neighbouring Village of Basgo (Ba-Go) at once used to be the Capital City of Ladakh Kings (The Namgyal Dynasty) and Village Nemo was used as summer palace or to spend weekends in the small palace typically build overseeing the river Indus, popularly known as “Chu-khar”.

The Name of the Village is derived from “Snye-nas-mo” means “Buddhist Nun” and it is believed and considered as the first Nunnery of Ladakh and accordingly the village was named after “Snye-nas-mo” or today’s Nemo. The village in itself is uniquely blessed by nature having holy mountains/hills on the four sides, historical rock arts in the four directions, holy springs in the four corners and a holy lake uphill in the village.

OLTHANGPA, a family name derived from the grass field “Olthang”, traditionally this family happens to be the family in- charged for watering these grass fields of the lords/kings. A family traditionally known for its skilled family members when we traced back four generations. OLTHANGPA HOUSE welcomes guests if not for luxurious but for a reasonably comfortable stay experiencing life of a Ladakhi in a village environment.
